Emergency services are gearing up for a preparedness drill and want Farmersville citizens to be aware.

The drill, which will be held starting at 8:30 a.m. til about noon Saturday, May 16, will simulate a mass casualty train derailment near the Onion Shed.

“We want citizens to know it’s going on and to avoid the area if possible,” Police Chief Mike Sullivan said.

The eastbound lanes of Farmersville Pkwy. will be closed for the staging of emergency equipment between Johnson and Washington St.

Around 7 a.m. residents will start seeing a lot of emergency vehicles in the area for the drill, Sullivan said.

On Main Street, traffic will be stopped on and off throughout the drill as needed for moving equipment, etc.

The drill will utilize a variety of emergency services personnel including Farmersville Fire Department, Farmersville Police Department, Collin County Homeland Security, Collin County Fire Marshal’s Office, AMR, Collin County Medical Examiners Office and many other fire and police departments.

There will also be a medical triage set up with Collin County AMR assisting 20 to 25 actors who will be simulating injuries.
