COLLEGE STATION – Princeton made a second straight appearance in the Adidas sponsored 7-on-7 Championships.
At Veterans Park and Athletic Complex on July 9-10, the Panthers finished .500 in Div. II over a two-day span.
In Pool I action, they took second at 2-1 to top finisher 3-0 Brady.
Princeton beat Needville 41-39 and Groesbeck 35-20, and fell to Brady 35-34 in the final game of the day.
Needville went 1-2 for third and 0-3 Groesbeck took last.
The Panthers moved on to the championship bracket and for the second year in a row were defeated.
Navasota pulled out a 35-34 win early in the morning at the Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.
Navasota won last years Class 4A Div. I state title 42-35 in double overtime against Argyle.
The Panthers made it to state after winning their own tournament back in May.
They beat Whitewright 46-20, Scurry-Rosser 41-18 and Greenville 45-19.
Princeton followed that up with a 33-26 win over eventual state qualifier Argyle in the semifinals.
Celina earned the other spot.
The Panthers will take a short break and return to the field Aug. 3 for the start of two-a-days.
They begin with non-contact for the four days and Aug. 7 strap on the pads for full contact.
After a week of preparation the Panthers will play a pair of scrimmages at Celina (Aug. 14) and host Decatur (Aug. 20).
The season kicks off 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 on the road against Frisco Independence at Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium.
