I am always disappointed when I see the fine old Confederate flag being used as a symbol of the Ku Klux Clan.
Many thousands of fine men fought and died for the Stars and Bars. It also hurts to see a part of our history being destroyed because misinformed groups fail to realize that the Civil War was fought over states’ rights. Slavery was another issue after the war had begun.
My great-grandfathers fought for this flag, but did not own slaves nor belong to the KKK. History has proved that it was a rich man’s war and a poor man’s fight.
When we see this flag used in a disrespectful manner, let’s try to remember that it is a part of our history and should be honored. I am a Korean veteran and will still fight for our American flag, and pray that it never falls to the same fate.
