AUSTIN — The University Interscholastic League has announced that the 2015 UIL football state championship games will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston.

All 11-man UIL Football Championship Games will be played December 17-19 at that facility.

Houston last hosted the UIL football championships for the Class 5A in 2008 at what was then known as Reliant Stadium.

“The UIL football state championships are truly a marquee event with a legion of fans dedicated to the best football in Texas,” UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt said. “The league looks forward to bringing the football finals to Houston’s NRG Stadium for a great championship experience.”

The 2015 football state championships will mark the fifth year all 11-man championship football games will be played at one pre-determined location.

Arlington’s AT&T Stadium hosted all 11-man games from 2011 through last year.

The UIL has determined the site for the largest conference football state championship games since 2006.

“We all know that high school football is big in Texas, and it’s something we’re also well-versed in hosting at NRG Stadium,” Kevin Hoffman, executive director of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation, said. “This will be our first time hosting the UIL high school football championship games in NRG Stadium and we hope to secure even more in the years to come. These 10 championship games will bring football fans from all over Texas to NRG Stadium in celebration of our youth and athletic achievement.”
