Town Hall Meeting scheduled Aug. 4 in regards to Muslim cemetery

There will be a Town Hall Meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 at the Farmersville High School regarding the proposed Muslim cemetery.

The meeting will be moderated by James Wilson, Attorney, Gay, McCall, Isaacks, Gordon, & Roberts, P.C.

The panel will include Mayor Joe Helmberger, City Manager Ben White, Khalil Abdur-Rashid, Resident Scholar, Islamic Association of Collin County and City Attorney Alan Lathrom.

The agenda will include opening remarks followed by statements by Khalil Abdur-Rashid, Resident Scholar, Islamic Association of Collin County and Mayor Joe Helmberger. The agenda also includes a written question response and open microphone question response.

This Town Hall meeting is free and open to the public. The goal is to discuss and address concerns regarding the submission of a plat for the IACC cemetery. This will also give the city an opportunity to address questions regarding local rules and processes, the city’s role and authority in reviewing plats, and
associated state and federal laws.
