Firefighters battle a blaze downtown on May 28 for hours to save buildings. Two structures are a complete loss and one more suffered water and smoke damage.

Firefighters battle a blaze downtown on May 28 for hours to save buildings. Two structures are a complete loss and one more suffered water and smoke damage.

The black plume could be seen from miles in every direction. It was described by many as a huge funnel cloud, extending down towards the town.

Then the calls started and the news traveled. Downtown was on fire.

“Historic downtowns are very susceptible to fire. Fortunately we had the equipment and the people to put it out. I am thankful to our city staff, fire department, citizens on patrol, neighboring fire departments, and many volunteers for their valuable assistance,” Farmersville Main Street Manager Adah Leah Wolf said.
