Fresh off a successful 2016 season, Farmersville football will start off this year state ranked in Class 3A Div. I Region II.
The Texas High School Coaches Association picked the squad fifth in 3A Div. I Region II preseason Top 10. District opponent and defending state champion Mineola was second and Mt. Vernon earned one vote.
Above the Farmers were Pottsboro (first), Jefferson (three) and White Oak (fourth). Rounding out the rankings were Sunnyvale (sixth), Kemp, Grandview, Howe and Dallas Madison. Others receiving votes were Van Alstyne, Whitesboro, Pilot Point and Maypearl.
Farmersville kicks off things off 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7 with the start of non-contact practices. Full contact will commence Aug. 11.
The first scrimmage is 6 p.m. Aug. 18 against visiting Lone Oak.
