With only 15 firefighters serving on the Farmersville Volunteer Fire Department, the department is seeking additional personnel to bolster their ranks.
70 percent of all firefighters in the United States are volunteers and the FVFD can carry up to 35.
The volunteer side of things carries the majority of the calls for the department while Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. is covered by Fire Chief Kim Morris and paid full-time firefighter Kevin Lisman.
Typically, volunteers are required to work one shift per week from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to handle medical calls in conjunction with American Medical Response ambulance service, vehicle lockouts and other minor calls. On larger calls, such as fires and wrecks, all volunteers respond.
