At three public meetings last week, Texas Department of Transportation recommended traffic loops north of McKinney and Princeton, and south of Farmersville as the best route to relieve congestion on US 380 that runs east-west across Collin County.
TxDOT hosted the meetings at McKinney, Princeton and Prosper. A description of project studies and citizen input was presented, and maps and charts were on display.
According to highway department estimates, it will be 6-9 years before construction starts and up to 20 years before the project is completed.
Population in Collin County is expected to increase 166 percent by 2040 and US 380 already is at capacity during peak travel periods, TxDOT engineer Ceason Clemons said.
