5 powerlifters qualify for state

The Farmersville High School Fightin’ Farmers powerlifting team won the Region 6 meet this week at Kennedale and qualified five lifters for the state meet March 28 in Abilene.

The boys competed in the Division II, Region 6 meet Tuesday, March 10, and scored 38 points to win the team title in a 9-school field. Second place with 27 points was captured by Gainesville and Kennedale tallied 26 for third.

FHS lifters advancing to state are seniors Jerry Cortez, 132-pound class; Colby Stinedurf, 159-pound class; Ethan Cortez, 181-pound class; Jacob Batson, 242-pound class; and Gabe Sandoval, superheavyweight.

Cortez, Stinedurf, Cortez and Batson won their classes and Sandoval placed second.
