Five Republicans and one Democrat filed last week as candidates in an emergency special election to fill the Texas Senate Dist. 30 recently made vacant by resignation.
The candidates had only a week, Aug. 24-28, to sign up for the election that is scheduled for Sept. 29. In calling the election, Gov. Greg Abbot set the short timeline so that the office would be filled before the Texas Legislature starts its biennial session in January 2021.
