Farmersville looks for bounce back against Krum

by | Sep 11, 2020 | Sports

After struggling in their first outing, the Farmersville football team hopes to come out of the open week and return to winning form.

Farmersville takes on the Krum Bobcats in their first home contest, squaring off against their first 4A team of the season.

Entering the matchup, Krum started the season 1-1, snapping a 26-game losing streak with an opening day win over North Lamar 49-20 at home. The following week Krum lost on the road to Hillsboro, 27-0.

“[Against North Lamar], they looked better than they were last year, so they’re improved,” Hankins said. “They’re a good football team, so we’re going to have to go prepare and be ready to play Friday night.”

Krum is competing in District 4-4A Div. II, alongside Aubrey, Celina, Sanger, and Van Alstyne. In a five-team district, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine has picked the Bobcats to finish last.

Headlining the offensive players for Krum are quarterback Cagen Clark and running back Trey Cook.

Cook has been solid since the start of the season. Against North Lamar, Cook finished with 18 carries for 139 rushing yards and three touchdowns, good for a 7.7 yards per carry average. Cook was a lone bright spot against Hillsboro, finishing with 105 rushing yards on 27 carries.

The game at Farmers Stadium starts 7:30 p.m.
