With 39 seconds to go on the clock, Farmers’ quarterback E.J. Chairez failed to connect with his receiver on fourth and goal from the 13-yard line, as Farmersville suffered a defeat to the Ferris Yellow Jackets 17-10.
Thoughts from Coach Brandon Hankins: “Give credit to Ferris, they played good and very hard,” Hankins said. “It was their homecoming, and they played their butts off. We just have to regroup and get ready for Van Alstyne.”
Key Play of the Game: Nate Aguinaga scrambles for 21 – On the first drive of the second half, Ferris quarterback Aguinaga shifted momentum in the game after he turned a third and 23 into a makeable fourth and short that led to a Ferris touchdown.
Top Farmer of the Night: Chairez – It was a strong game for Chairez in both the passing and rushing game, as he led the Farmers to the doorstep of victory. Chairez finished with 104 passing yards and a touchdown while also recording 40 yards on nine carries.
Impact Stat: 220 total penalty yards. – Throughout the night, yellow flags surrounded the field, with entire drives for both Farmersville and Ferris being stalled by untimely penalties, including a potential game tying touchdown for the Farmers.
