Farmersville one kick away in loss to Van Alstyne

by | Sep 26, 2020 | Sports

In another heartbreaking defeat, Farmersville football came within a converted kick of glory, as they lost to the Van Alstyne Panthers 42-41 in overtime.

Thoughts from Coach Hankins:

“That’s two weeks in a row that we’ve played our butts off against teams that are supposed to beat us,” Hankins said. “We go out there and fight from 15-0 to make it 21-21. We freak out in big situations and we have to quit doing that.”

Key Play of the Game: Van Alstyne blocks the Connor Hanson extra point attempt.

There were many plays that could have turned the tide of the game, whether it be the scramble that tied the game or the missed field goal that would have given the Farmers a lead with less than a minute left. Biggest of all was the play that happened in overtime when the Panthers blocked  an extra point attempt, giving Van Alstyne an easy path to win.

Top Farmer of the Night: Aidan Gray

In an offense that centers on running the ball, Gray provided a spark to the Farmers’ passing offense, hauling in five catches for 167 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including an 89 yard pass in the first half.
