Farmersville voters appear set to have an election in their near future that would establish a home-rule charter for the city they call home.
That was the consensus of city council, which at its Jan. 12 meeting agreed to move forward with considering a resolution to send the charter issue to a vote in May. Councilmembers will meet next on Jan. 26.
City Manager Ben White told council it has until Feb. 11, which he said is 78 days until the election, to decide whether to refer the charter proposal to voters. The council, he said, must “order the election” on or before Feb. 11. White told councilmembers they have “two meetings before then” to finalize their request. The second meeting will occur on Feb. 9. The election is set for May 1.
