CARES Act funds aids city, small businesses

by | Mar 18, 2021 | Latest

Last May, as COVID-19 shut down much of the United States, the federal government enacted the first stimulus package to help states’ financial health.

The CARES Act was $2.2 trillion economic stimulus plan approved by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump in March 2020. The county received the money and then distributed it to cities based on their population in an allocation formula.

CARES Act 2 was signed into law on December 27 and disbursed in January 2021.

Funds received by the state of Texas were disbursed to each county. The first Cares Act saw Collin County receive almost $150 million which was used for housing, emergency operations, personal protection equipment, testing, food programs and recovery efforts at the city level.

Of the $50 million allocated to 20 cities, Farmersville received $168,645 in August 2020.
