The Farmersville Times won multiple awards at the North and East Texas Press Association Better Newspaper Contest 2020

The awards were presented at the annual NETPA convention held at the SpringHill Suites in Rockwall April 8-10.

The newspaper competed in the large weekly category and placed in all categories entered.

Awards were based on submissions in categories including General Excellence, Advertising, Column Writing, Editorials, Feature Story, Headline Writing, Page Design, News Writing, Sports Writing, Sports Coverage, Feature Photo, News Photo and Sports Photo.

The Times placed first for General Excellence overall, beating C&S Media sister newspapers, The Wylie News and The Sachse News, for submissions of two complete issues – Sept. 17 and Sept. 24 – in 2020.

The Times also garnered a first place win in Feature Photography for two photos taken in 2020. Photos submitted included a photo of the Fightin’ Farmers cheerleaders in Sept. 24 issue taken by Victor Tapia. The other winning photo, taken by Sonia Duggan, featured 2-year-old Ellis McCoy looking in a storefront window at Christmastime. Judges commented “Great photos! Nice variety of expressions captured in the “Go Farmers Go” and “Small Wonders” melts my heart. Well done!!”
