Week one was about as good as you can hope for for the Farmersville football team.
Facing a tough opponent, the Farmers were able to dominate over the final 10 minutes of the ball game, outsourcing the Rains Wildcats 21-0 to earn a sweet revenge game after losing last year’s game.
There’s not too much time to celebrate, however, as the Farmers prepare for their next game, a home showdown against A+ Academy.
Here are three keys to a Farmersville victory over the Knights:
- Trust the offense
Coach Randy Barnes proved in his first game how effective the Farmersville offense will be this season. Senior quarterback EJ Chairez was stellar in the debut, finishing with 314 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. While his rushing ability was on display, Chairez impressed thanks to an improved command under center. Chairez completed 13-of-22 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns.
Alongside Chairez, the Farmers also had a ton of other weapons highlighting their ability against Rains. Senior tailback Brady Tidwell was a workhorse in the backfield, finishing with 176 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Tidwell’s 94-rushing touchdown proved to be the game winner, as well as a backbone for Farmersville’s comeback victory. In the passing game, receivers like Jeralin Craddock, Aidan Gray, Conner Hanson and Colton Harbin allowed for Chairez to find open and effective targets.
