Health officials reported the highest single day COVID-19 case count in the U.S. early last week with more than one million infections.
A total of 1,082,549 new COVID-19 cases were reported Monday, Jan. 3, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
While the large number of new cases was in part caused by reporting delays and incomplete data over the New Year’s holiday weekend, data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services showed the 7-day average reported in that same timeframe also increased to its highest record number at 480,273 cases.
In Texas, on Jan. 10, officials reported 34,814 new confirmed cases, 7,977 probable cases and 48 deaths. The Texas Department of Health and Human Services estimated there was a total of 18,927 active cases in Collin County as of that same date.
