After six months of waiting for a reprieve from the pandemic, Honor Flight DFW is ready to take to the friendly skies again.
Judy Heaps, board secretary for the nonprofit, visited the Farmersville Rotary Club on Tuesday, March 1 to inform members, some of whom are veterans themselves, that now is the time to support, and perhaps apply, for future honor flights.
The upcoming flight — the 46th flight for Honor Flight DFW — is set to depart April 29 and return on April 30. The trips depart Love Field aboard a Southwest Airlines jetliner.
“Every trip has its own personality,” Heaps told Rotary Club members, adding that “veterans, you are a living history book.”
Honor Flight DFW is a nonprofit organization created to honor veterans living in the North Texas area for their service and sacrifices. The all-volunteer group takes veterans to Washington, D.C. for a once-in-a-lifetime, all-expenses-paid trip to reflect at various memorials dedicated to those who served in our nation’s conflicts and to share that moment with the only people who could possibly understand – other veterans.
