Rotary tees it up to raise money for area youth

by | Mar 29, 2022 | Latest, Sports

The Farmersville Rotary Club has just one fundraiser — a golf tournament — each year.

After a two-year break for a global pandemic, the club is teeing it up to raise funds which will benefit area youth.

The 23rd Annual Bob Tedford Memorial Golf Classic is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, at Woodbridge Golf Course in Wylie.

Deadline for registration is Monday, April 11.

According to organizers, the proceeds go toward assisting the club with local scholarships, sponsoring Boy Scouts of America and sending young men and women to Camp RYLA, a Rotary leadership organization.

The club also provides assistance to the annual Angel Tree, FISD outdoor lab, Samaritan Inn, Honor Flight DFW, Meals on Wheels, Farmersville Outreach Alliance, Senior Citizens and much more.

As in the past, the tournament will feature a hole-in-one-contest sponsored by Tedford Chevrolet. This year, a 2022 Silverado is up for grabs and the dealership’s owner and son of the tournament’s namesake, Robbie Tedford, will be the first to say that “someone needs to win this truck.”

There are also mulligans available, a move-up hole and a closest-to-the-pin contest. Other prizes will be also given away. For those who want to get a little extra practice in beforehand, the driving range and putting green will be open at noon.

Check-in begins at noon and participants will tee off at 1 p.m. There will be a hamburger buffet and awards after the event.

The tournament will follow a “Four-person Florida scramble” format. The team’s best ball will be played throughout the round. Individual players’ will be assigned to a team.

“Everyone should consider playing,” said tournament chair Chad Engbrock. “Bring a team of friends or sign up as an individual. Either way, it’s a lot of fun and you don’t have to be a regular player to enjoy the day.”

Prizes will be awarded for low gross, first- and second-place low net, and Need for Improvement.

Tournament sponsorships are still available. Gold level sponsors are $850 and include four players and a golf hole sponsorship. Silver sponsors are $500 and include two players and a golf hole sponsorship. Bronze sponsors are $275 and include one player and a golf hole sponsorship. Individual players are $125, and hole sponsorships are available for $175.

Hole sponsorship names will be posted on the tee boxes.

Directions to Woodbridge Golf Course can be found at wbgolfclub.com or call 972-429-5100.

The tournament is named in honor of Bob Tedford, a 32-year Rotarian who focused the club’s efforts on Farmersville youth.
