Aubrey Varner has been the leader of the Farmersville cross country team all season, and will now get a chance to race for state in two weeks.
Varner finished seventh overall (13:32.67) at the District 13-4A championship Monday afternoon, and she’ll run at the regional championship on Oct. 24 in Grand Prairie. Varner improved her district mark from last season by over 30 seconds and was right around her season mark this season. Kaufman’s Kathryn Tucker finished first overall at the meet (12:08.98).
As a team, Farmersville sent six other runners to the varsity meet. Kimberly Hernandez finished 24th (15:37.33) for the Lady Farmers. Jenniel Soto, Ashlynn Clark, Emily Brooks, Savanah Johnson and Baylie Adams also ran for the team in the varsity meet.
The Lady Farmers placed sixth overall with 133 points, while Kaufman (21 points), Sunnyvale (49 points) and Caddo Mills (100 points) placed the top three.
The varsity boys team just missed out on regional qualification, with two runners finishing in the top 30. Kaufman (17 points), Wills Point (59 points) and Sunnyvale (97 points) finished as the regional qualifying teams.
Amon Odom was the top runner for the Farmers, placing 23rd overall (19:20.76). Bryan Mujica also placed in the top 30 for the Farmers, finishing 28th (19:58.44). Jacob Watkins, Logan Lane, Isaiah Bustamante and Zackary Gennette also ran for the Farmers boys team.
