With five games remaining, the playoff race is heating up for the Lady Farmers basketball team.
Every game matters, and the Lady Farmers picked up a key victory over Community at home Tuesday night, winning 49-32. The game was close early on, before a big run in the second quarter gave the Lady Farmers an 11-point lead at the half.
Alexia and Kimberley Hernandez did an excellent job in the first half generating turnovers and creating fast break opportunities for Farmersville.
With the victory, Farmersville and Community are now tied in the District 14-4A standings at 3-4. Wills Point sits in third at 5-2, with Kaufman and Sunnyvale leading the pack.
The Lady Farmers travel to Sunnyvale this Friday, Jan. 20, in another key game that could give a tiebreaker between Farmersville and Community for the final playoff spot.

The Farmers battled hard but fell short in a 43-40 loss to Community at home Tuesday night.
Dylan Shankle hit a 3-point field goal to tie the game at 38 late in the contest, but the Braves defense stood tall late and drew several charges that were the difference in the game.
With the loss, Farmersville fell to 0-5 in district play. They travel to Wills Point this Friday in their next game.
