Farmersville traveled to Sunnyvale last Wednesday and Thursday for the District 14-4A championship, earning several area qualifiers in the process.
The top four in each varsity meet will head to Dallas next Thursday, April 20. For the teams, the Lady Farmers placed third overall out of seven schools with 107 points. They trailed just behind Sunnyvale (163 points) and Kaufman (198 points). The boys placed sixth in the meet with 17 points, while Sunnyvale won the 14-4A boys championship (207 points).
Individually, Farmersville High School will send several athletes to the area meet, led by district champions Frances Dickerson (two individual district titles), Aubrey Varner and the girls 4×400 relay team of Dickerson, Varner, Baylee Valliant and Alexi Atchison.
Dickerson broke the school’s 300-meter hurdle school record (44.97), moving into the top 50 of all classifications with her recent time. She also won the long jump (17-02) championship and placed fourth in the 100-meter sprint to qualify for the area in three individual events.
Varner reset her own school record in the 800 (2:20.39), while also placing third in the 400 to qualify in two individual events.
Other area qualifiers for Farmersville include Valliant and Ashlynn Clark in the 200-meter sprint, Dauntae Pearson in the boys long jump, Cecily Sandoval in the shot put and discus finals, and the girls 4×100 (Savanah Johnson, Zaquita Skinner, Cayla Huff and Clark) and 4×200 (Clark, Valliant, Skinner and Atchison) relay teams. Valliant placed second in the 200, just 0.12 seconds off of the top spot.
