Farmersville clinched the outright District 13-4A championship Tuesday night at home, defeating Sunnyvale 15-0 in four innings.
The Lady Farmers (9-1, 19-7) remained ahead of Community in the district standings to win the championship, adding to a long list of accolades for the Lady Farmer softball program.
They now prepare for the bi-district round of the state playoffs, where they’ll face Kaufman next Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 at Rockwall Heath High School. Game one will be at 5 p.m. Friday, with game two at 11 a.m. on Saturday. If necessary, game three will follow the second game Saturday afternoon.
Farmersville’s Jamie Varga led the game off with a lead-off triple, which she scored on after an errant Sunnyvale throw in the win over the Lady Raiders. Destiney Madewell’s two-out single drove in the run of the inning, and the Lady Farmers never looked back.
Baylee Valliant led the top of the second inning off with a walk and later scored on good baserunning and an RBI ground out from Kaylie Casados. Varga then hit an inside-the-park home run in her second at-bat, scoring her second run of the day, and the second of three Farmersville runs in the second inning. Closing out the game in the fourth, Farmersville scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to reach the mercy rule.
