Farmersville scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh against No. 7 Canton in the regional quarterfinals but fell short in a 9-7 defeat in game one.
The Lady Farmers will get another crack at it Friday night for game two at North Forney High School at 6:30 p.m. Trailing 9-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Destiney Madewell led things off with a home run to ignite the rally.
The following six Farmersville batters reached base before Carleigh Deeds’ infield fly led to an error that scored two runs. Alyssa Smith, Baylee Valliant, Kaylie Casados, Jamie Varga and Morgan Erwin all scored during the inning. Bella Holland’s RBI ground out made it 9-7 before Canton finally got out of the inning to end the game.
Madewell, Smith, Casados and Erwin all had multi-hit games, while Valliant scored two runs in the contest, including Farmersville’s first run off of Varga’s RBI single, cutting the Eaglette’s lead to 5-1 at the time.
On the brink, the Lady Farmers hope to avoid elimination Friday night. If they win, they’ll play game three at North Forney Saturday morning.
