Farmersville’s Frances Dickerson and Aubrey Varner competed at the UIL 4A state championships Thursday night, one of the top nine participants in their classification.
Competing in the 300-meter hurdles, Dickerson finished sixth overall (45.98) in her event. Falyn Lott of Frisco Panther Creek finished first (43.08) in a highly competitive race. Dickerson, a senior who is signed to compete at Texas A&M Commerce next season, set the school record in the event this season and helped the 4×400 relay team reach regionals as well.
Varner placed ninth in the 800 (2:25.63), while Canyon’s Abree Winfrey took home the gold (2:15.02). The junior Lady Farmer was fifth after the first lap, with all nine runners within a second of each other heading into the final lap. Varner is the school record-holder in the 800-meter race and will get another chance at competing for state next season.
