LUCAS – Farmersville took an early lead over Van Alstyne in game one of the regional semifinals but lost 5-2.
Morgan Erwin’s sacrifice fly scored Jamie Varga to give the Lady Farmers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lady Panthers quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Van Alstyne was patient at the plate all evening, drawing five walks and scoring five runs despite being outhit by Farmersville 6-3 in the game. Erwin had both RBIs in the game, both off a sacrifice fly, but the Lady Farmers struggled to convert with runners on base, leaving runners stranded in the first, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.
Farmersville will play game two Friday night at Lovejoy High School at 6:30 p.m., with game three Saturday morning if the Lady Farmers win. If Farmersville can come back in their third series of this postseason, they’ll play the winner of Sulphur Springs and Aubrey in the regional finals.
