Duo plans documentary to capture Audie Murphy’s legacy

by | Jun 20, 2024 | Latest

Patrick Baumann, left, of Stosswihr, France, and French filmmaker Christian Monzinger discuss plans for the Audie Murphy documentary at the Heritage Museum last week.

Patrick Baumann has a story to tell.

It involves a young North Texan who on Jan. 26,1945 exhibited an extraordinary combination of grit, courage, fearlessness and valor. The young man’s name was Audie Murphy, the nation’s most decorated serviceman in World War II.

Baumann was not yet born when Murphy saved the village of Holtzwihr, France from the German armored unit that threatened to overrun it near the end of the war.
