Farmersville resident Tye Thompson said that playing cornhole provided him with an outlet to socialize with his friends. But when he saw that he could make money playing it, he began to take it as more serious.

Now, he has a professional championship to show for his dedication to the sport.

Two weeks ago in Fort Collins, Colo., Thompson captured first place in the American Cornhole League No. 3 Pro Singles event.

“I was super excited,” he said. “I’ve been playing for four years. Winning a title has been one of my goals as I’ve gotten better, and to finally do it is pretty exciting.”
