Farmersville residents can now get critical safety alerts and community updates right on their phones, thanks to a new partnership between the city’s police department and Nixle that began earlier this year.

Residents can register by texting their ZIP code, 75442, to 888777 from a mobile phone, or by signing up through the Farmersville Police Nixle webpage. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation text and may customize alert settings by visiting nixle.com and creating a user profile.

“Nixle is a great tool to help keep our community informed,” Farmersville Police Chief Marsha Phillips said. “We encourage everyone to sign up so they can receive important alerts and stay updated on what’s happening in our city.”

The free service is designed to keep residents informed about emergency and non-emergency events in the city. Alerts are targeted geographically, allowing recipients to receive relevant notifications from the police department.

Nixle alerts can be delivered by text, email, web or through the Nixle mobile app. The platform partners with organizations including the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the National Blue Alert Network and Google to provide secure communication and two-way information exchange.

Founded in 2009, Nixle provides mass communication tools for government agencies. More than 7,200 agencies across the United States use the service for community engagement and emergency communication. More information is available at nixle.com.
