Farmersville senior Christian Aguilar made a 32-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Farmers to a 30-27 road win over Blue Ridge on Friday from Tiger Stadium.

Aguilar’s game-winner came a few minutes after the Tigers missed a potential go-ahead field goal.

Farmersville (1-0) got the ball back at its own 30 with about three and a half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and drove more than half of the length of the field to set up Aguilar for the game-winner.

Senior Sam Stone had a couple of crucial pass receptions during that clock-eating drive for Farmersville.

Special teams also played a key role in the Farmers’ win.

Aguilar made field goals of 32 and 40 yards and had booted every kickoff into the end zone while senior Daniel Mendoza had long punts that helped flipped starting field position.

Senior Marquis Oshodi had a 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown late in the third quarter that put Farmersville back in the lead.

Farmersville stormed out to a 10-0 lead in the first half only to see Blue Ridge (0-1) rally to within 10-7 at halftime before taking the lead in the third quarter. However, the Farmers won the game thanks to some timely plays on offense and the right leg of Aguilar.

Defensively, junior Amare Warren had two interceptions.

Farmersville will host North Lamar next Friday at 7 p.m. before going back on the road for games at Commerce (Sept. 12) and Wills Point (Sept. 19).
