COMMERCE — After weather-shortened games last week for both teams, the Farmersville Farmers and the Commerce Tigers squared off in an action-packed game that saw the Commerce Tigers hold their lead with some big plays late in the game to take a 33-24 win over Farmersville.
After trading punts to start the second half, the Farmers picked up some momentum with a 45 yard option pass to senior Marquis Oshodi, who capped the drive on a 30-yard scoring run, closing the gap to 20-17 Commerce on the extra point.
Commerce widened their lead in the fourth quarter with a 57-yard touchdown. The Farmers (2-1) answered with a seven-play, 84-yard drive capped by a 38-yard pass to senior Ethan Stone, making it 27-24 Commerce with 3:37 left in the game.
Commerce recovered an onside kick by Farmersville, but the Farmer defense held the line until junior Jordan Walker broke open over the middle for 46 yards to make it 33-24 with 1:12 left in the game.
Farmersville junior quarterback Levi McAbee completed 20 of 33 passes for 242 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Junior Amare Warren finished with seven catches for 108 yards.
