Deadlines, Voter ID requirements for Texas voters

by | Sep 25, 2025 | Area news, Latest

Texans planning to vote in the upcoming election cycle should be aware of key deadlines and requirements that will impact their ability to cast a ballot in 2025.

The last day to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 6, 2025. Early voting begins on Monday, Oct. 20, and will continue through Friday, Oct. 31.

Voters who wish to vote by mail must apply by Friday, Oct. 24. Ballots submitted by mail must be received by Tuesday, Nov. 4, unless they are postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Election Day itself falls on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Voters who cast a provisional ballot due to not presenting acceptable photo identification at the polls have until Monday, Nov. 10, to “cure” their ballot by presenting the necessary documentation.

The last day for election officials to complete the canvass of votes is Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Texas law requires voters who vote in person to present one of the seven acceptable forms of photo identification:

Texas Driver License, Texas Election Identification Certificate, Texas Personal Identification Card, Texas Handgun License, U.S. Military Identification Card, U.S. Citizenship Certificate (does not expire) or a U.S. Passport (book or card).

For voters aged 18 to 69, these IDs must be current or have expired no more than four years prior to voting. Voters aged 70 or older may use an ID that has expired for any length of time, provided it is otherwise valid.

Voters who do not possess one of the acceptable forms of photo ID and have a reasonable impediment to obtaining one may still vote by presenting a supporting form of ID from an alternate list and completing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration.

For more information, voters are encouraged to visit their county elections office or consult the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
