Perfect early autumn weather greeted crowds of visitors Saturday in downtown Farmersville for Old Time Saturday, the annual event celebrating the city that calls itself a “Texas Treasure.”

The day kicked off with the annual Audie Murphy Heroes Run, a 5K race that drew about 70 participants. Lincoln Hightower led the men’s field with a time of 19:06, while Janet Gonzales was the top female finisher at 23:19.

Event Chairman Dustin Tarrant, a South State Bank loan officer, who’s helped coordinate Old Time Saturday for several years, said turnout for the 5K was “about average,” with roughly 70 participants.
