TxDOT to widen FM 982

by | Nov 20, 2025 | Area news, Latest

Public meeting scheduled for December 9

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has scheduled public and virtual meetings on its plan to widen Farm-to-Market Road 982 from U.S. Highway 380 to FM 546 in Princeton.

An in-person meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Longhorn 2020 Event Center, 3670 FM 982 in Princeton. Attendees can view the presentation, review materials, ask questions and leave comments.

The project would expand FM 982 to a four-lane divided roadway with a 10-foot-wide shared-use path on both sides. Between US 380 and CR 400 (Myrick Lane)/FM 452, a six-foot sidewalk on the southbound side would transition into a shared-use path. Drainage would use curb and gutter, and right-of-way widths would generally be 120 feet.

A virtual public meeting will be available online, also starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at keepitmovingdallas.com/projects/fm-roads/fm982.

The online presentation will include video and audio components and remain available for at least 15 days. Residents without internet access can call 214-320-6244 to view materials or ask questions.

The project may require additional right of way and could displace one home. Relocation assistance is available. Environmental studies indicate construction could involve wetlands and floodplains.

Project materials will also be available for review by appointment at the TxDOT Dallas District Office, 4777 East U.S. Highway 80, Mesquite, starting Dec. 9. Call 214-320-6244 to schedule an appointment.

Comments may be submitted by mail, email, or phone and must be received by Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025. Responses will be posted online. Translation services and accommodations for disabilities are available with advance notice.
