More than eight people have been arrested in connection with the raid on a cockfight by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said.
The bust took place Friday, Nov. 28, on County Road 697, southeast of Farmersville, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Responding to a report of animal cruelty, deputies rounded up people fleeing the scene and obtained a search warrant for the rural property.
They seized 55 live fighting roosters, two deceased roosters, various forms of cockfighting paraphernalia, and cash from the scene, a report from the Sheriff’s Office said.
The roosters were taken by Collin County Animal Control, where they were being housed and cared for.
Eight individuals were arrested on charges related to cockfighting and evading arrest. Several others were cited for spectating, the report said.
