Farmersville residents in the city’s extra-territorial jurisdiction raised questions about emergency services during the Dec. 1 regular city council meeting, even as the recent proposition to form an emergency services district for unincorporated areas passed successfully.
Several speakers during the public forum asked for clarification on fire protection coverage and the revenue expected from the new taxing structure. Some also thanked the city for providing fire and emergency response to areas outside the city limits despite tight annual budgets.
During the regular agenda, Fire Chief Greg Massey provided an update that addressed many of the concerns. Massey described the ESD formation process as having “lots of moving parts,” noting that he has upcoming meetings with county officials. While he said the amount of revenue the new district will generate is still unknown, he explained that an ESD board is expected to be in place by Jan. 1.
