CISD student arrested in fatal shooting

Lavon Police Chief Mike Jones says a 14-year-old murder suspect has been arrested without incident. The chief said the boy, a student at Community Trails Middle School, was apprehended Monday, Dec. 15, in Dallas.

Jones said the suspect was sought in connection with the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Romeo English of Rowlett during a party Saturday, Dec. 13, at a residence in the 700 block of Wellington Drive in the Crestridge Meadows subdivision.

“The suspect and victim [were] both at the gathering when a verbal altercation took place which turned physical,” Jones said. “A short time later, while the victim was preparing to leave, the suspect brandished a firearm and shot the victim multiple times at close range.

The suspect fled on foot, triggering a manhunt that involved more than a dozen agencies. As a result, Community ISD increased security at campuses in Lavon and temporarily blocked visitors to Community Trails, Dodson Elementary and NeSmith Elementary.
