All of the hard work put in by cross country runners, football players and the student managers and trainers who worked with those student-athletes this fall was recently recognized by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
Farmersville was among the schools that had students earn spots on the THSCA academic all-state team.
From the Farmersville cross country team, Christian Mejia, Daniella Jimenez, Miller Meeks, Presley Miller and Valerie Palmros earned second-team honors.
The Farmers’ boys made an appearance at the Region II-4A meet and two weeks earlier captured third place at the District 13-4A meet. Meeks placed 15th overall at the district meet with a time of 18:44. On the girls’ side, Jimenez earned 30th place at the 13-4A meet with a time of 16:23. Palmros ran a time of 18:32.
In football, Farmersville had seven student-athletes earn nods on the academic all-state team. Addison Adams, Fernando Hernandez and Hayden Grabowski were named to the second team, while Cade Ellis, Ethan Stone, Triffan Greene and Nathaniel Clark earned honorable-mention selections.
Stone, a defensive back and wide receiver, and Greene, a defensive tackle, earned second-team honors.
Ellis, a linebacker, was previously named to the All-District 5-4A Division II first team and again teamed up with Greene, who made big plays throughout the season in Farmersville’s front seven.
Stone emerged as a two-way standout for Farmersville, finishing with six receiving touchdowns and 510 receiving yards. Defensively, Ellis was once again among the team’s leading tacklers and a vocal leader. He recorded 12 tackles and three tackles for loss in a 55-19 win over Bonham on Oct. 10.
