Throughout the majority of Saturday afternoon’s home game, there were times when it appeared the Farmersville girls basketball team had distanced itself from Community, only to see the Lady Braves stage a rally.
Farmersville (17-8 overall, 4-3 District 13-4A) finally put away Community for good late in the fourth quarter to earn a hard-fought 48-41 win at Farmersville Arena.
Senior Alexia Hernandez scored 18 points to pace Farmersville, followed by 10 from senior Rileigh Blankenship.
Sophomore Sadee Mathews made crucial plays down the stretch to propel the Lady Farmers. With less than one minute remaining in the game, she jumped the passing lane and got a steal. Blankenship was subsequently fouled and made two free throws for a 46-41 lead with 29.2 left.
