Farmersville had three lifters qualify for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Class 4A small-school meet.
Sophia Ferretiz was crowned Region 6-4A champion in the 220-pound weight class after a dominant showing. She lifted a total of 1,040 pounds at Decatur High School on Friday. Her total was 255 pounds more than second-place finisher Halle Thompson of Bonham, who lifted 790 pounds across the three events.
Janilya Craft won first place in the 242-pound weight class with a 1,070-pound total.
Callie Edwards earned second place in the 148-pound class with a 755-pound total.
The THSWPA state meet will be held at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg. The 6A meet is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, at 1:30 p.m., while 4A competition begins at 8 a.m. Friday, March 20.
The Lady Farmers had an FHS record 20 girls qualify for Regionals and finished as the 3rd place team in the meet. The Regional Qualifiers who competed were Janessa Rico, Jadynn Wing, Bayley Bakken, Presley Green, Carly Chavez, Teaghen Lightbody, Lissette Martinez, Zoey Mann, Brynlee McWilliams, Natalie Rodriguez, Lauren Flippen, and Arley Banks.
Farmersville had several girls place in the top five, earning medals and points for the team: Addison Ruffin – 4th place in the 105-lb weight class with a total lifted of 490 pounds; Gavi Soto – 4th place in the 114-lb weight class with a total lifted of 565 pounds; Chloe Jones – 4th place in the 123-lb weight class with a total lifted of 610 pounds; Shaylee Green – 5th pace in the 132-lb weight class with a total of 650 pounds; and Jodie Vanderburg – 5th place in the 242-lb weight class with a total of 685 pounds.
