With the postseason hopes of the Farmersville girls soccer team having faded a few weeks ago, the Lady Farmers focused their attention on finishing the season on a positive note.

Head coach Rebecca Christ told her players to continue to maintain positive control, win the winnable games and compete to the best of their abilities against squads ahead of them in the District 11-4A standings.

Although Farmersville struggled in losses to Frisco Panther Creek, Aubrey, Prosper Richland and Celina, the Lady Farmers took care of business during the final week of the regular season against Pilot Point and Bonham.

Senior Natalie Taylor scored four goals in the final game of her standout high school career, and junior Syah Surles added two goals Saturday afternoon in a dominant 7-0 win for Farmersville over Bonham on Senior Day at Farmers Stadium.

“It was a great team effort,” Christ said. “We only had a few goal scorers today, but they were passing and moving the ball and creating scoring chances. Almost everybody on the field had a chance to score.”

Taylor was quick to set the tone. The Farmersville senior kicked the ball into the right side of the net in the fourth minute for a 1-0 Lady Farmers lead.

Taylor, a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi signee, was only getting started. In the 23rd minute, Farmersville earned a corner kick. Surles floated the ball inside the penalty area, but the Bonham goalkeeper couldn’t make the initial save. Taylor pounced on the loose ball and scored for a 3-0 Lady Farmers lead.

Taylor finished her senior season with 31 goals and had 77 over the last three seasons.

“I don’t have the words, not only as a player but as human being in general,” Christ said. “She’s a great person. She’s a great teammate. She’s a great leader. Obviously, she’s a goal scorer and one of the best players on the field. I can’t say enough positive things about her. We’re going to miss her.”

Farmersville (9-14-1 overall, 6-10 in district) took a 5-0 lead after converting a set piece with just over three minutes left in the first half.

Taylor struck the ball from 20 yards away on a free kick, and Kadence Fisk pounced on the loose ball for a goal.

Farmersville led 5-0 at halftime and added two more goals in the second half, the last coming on Surles’ tally with less than one minute remaining in the match. Surles finished the season with 13 goals.

Saturday’s win came three days after Farmersville cruised to a 6-0 shutout win over Pilot Point.

Taylor posted a hat trick, Surles scored twice and Fisk found the back of the net once.

“They’ve been amazing to coach,” Christ said. “They’re sponges. They wanted to learn and they wanted to grow. They’ve had great attitudes. If I ask them to play somewhere on the field, they’ll play there.”
