Historical Society luncheon to celebrate America’s 250th

The Farmersville Historical Society will host its annual Spring Luncheon on Saturday, April 11, with a patriotic theme celebrating America’s 250th birthday.

Titled the “American 250 Semiquincentennial,” the event will be held at Farmersville High School and will begin at 11 a.m., with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. to allow guests time to mingle and browse silent auction items.

Attorney Rob Hess will serve as the featured speaker, presenting on 250 years of U.S. citizenship. The program will also include musical performances by Cindy Williams of Greenville, who will sing patriotic selections, including “Happy Birthday America. Later, attendees will participate in a group sing-along of classic American songs.

Clay Potter will serve as master of ceremonies for the luncheon, which will include a variety of activities such as a silent auction, door prizes and a contest recognizing the most patriotically dressed man and woman.

The meal will feature barbecue prepared by local pitmaster Joe Foist, with sides provided by Webb Hill Country Club and dessert by Ol’ Tin Cupboard Bakery.

The luncheon will take place in the Farmersville High School cafeteria. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at farmersvilletxhistoricalsociety.com or at Dyer Drug Store in downtown Farmersville.

Organizer Linda Hess said she wants the event to be a celebration of the nation’s history while supporting the society’s ongoing preservation efforts.
