After scoring a total of five runs over its first four District 13-4A games, the offense for the Farmersville Lady Farmers softball team erupted for 15 runs in a thrilling 15-14 triumph over Sunnyvale on March 24.

Veronica Medrano delivered the final blow, hitting a game-ending RBI triple into center field during the bottom of the eighth inning.

Farmersville overcame deficits of 3-0 and 5-1 to notch its first district win.

Trailing 5-1 entering the bottom of the second, Farmersville sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs.

Nidya Duran ignited the rally with an RBI single. Medrano followed with an RBI double. Jacey Wheaton brought in two runs with a triple. Presley McIver made it 7-5 Farmersville with an RBI single. Haley Watkins capped off the big inning with a two-run triple for a 9-5 Lady Farmers advantage.

Wheaton posted three hits and drove in five runs. McIver and Watkins each contributed three hits, while Duran, Medrano and Maddie Burkhart tallied two hits apiece.

Farmersville recorded eight extra-base hits with five triples.

Sunnyvale rallied to take a 14-13 lead in the top of the seventh, but Farmersville extended the game into extra innings after McIver drew a bases-loaded walk in the home half of the inning.  Medrano won the game for the Lady Farmers one inning later.

However, Farmersville was unable to carry over that momentum into Friday’s 11-0 road loss against Quinlan Ford.

The Lady Farmers were held to two hits and committed eight errors.

Meanwhile, the Farmersville baseball team struggled to keep pace with Caddo Mills, with the Foxes taking Game 1 by a 12-0 final and Game 2 by a score of 10-4.

In last Friday’s rubber match of the series, Farmersville tied the score at 1-1 after Reece Tuck scored on a defensive error in the top of the third.

Caddo Mills countered with four runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead, an advantage the Foxes wouldn’t relinquish. The last three of those runs came courtesy of a three-run double by Jayton Mulkey.

Mulkey’s other hit on the day was a home run. He finished with five RBIs.

Farmersville trailed 10-2 in the seventh inning, but the Farmers scored two runs in the frame, the first on an RBI double by Camden Anderson.

The Farmers dropped to 2-5 in District 13-4A.

Farmersville will conclude its two-game series with Wills Point tonight in Farmersville. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.

The Lady Farmers softball team is also in action that same night against Community, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
