The postseason got off to a rousing start for the Farmersville track and field team.
The Farmers were crowned district champions in four events at last week’s District 13-4A meet in Wills Point and qualified for today’s area meet in Sunnyvale in 17 events, highlighted by standout performances from their junior class.
Breelynn Pollard qualified for the area meet in three events, highlighted by a dominant performance in the 3,200-meter run. Her time of 11:55.37 was 17 seconds faster than the runner-up. She also finished second in the 1,600 in 5:30.20 and third in the 800 with a time of 2:29.79.
Ameera Warren, also a junior, was the district runner-up in the 200, clocking a time of 26.65.
The Lady Farmers also advanced their 4×100 (third, 50.96) and 4×200 (fourth, 1:48.46) relays to the area meet.
Amare Warren repeated as district champion in the triple jump with a leap of 46-5.5 and earned fourth in the long jump with a distance of 21-6.5.
Matthew Salvador, a senior, won the 13-4A title in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.98 and also placed fourth in the 110 hurdles in 16.52.
Ethan Stone, also a senior, captured top honors in the 400 with a winning time of 50.10.
Senior Owen Gates qualified for the area meet in the 100, earning fourth place with a time of 11.05.
Sophomore Landen Ware led the way for the Farmersville boys in the distance events, placing third in the 3,200 (10:30.00) and fourth in the 1,600 (4:50.52).
All three relays for the Farmersville boys qualified for the area meet, led by a win in the 4×400 in 3:27.79. The Farmers earned second in the 4×100 in 42.66 and captured bronze in the 4×200 in 1:31.49.
Farmersville will look to qualify its student-athletes for the Region II-4A meet, set for April 24-25 at East Texas A&M University in Commerce.
