Veterans, community leaders and residents gathered Saturday at the Onion Shed for the annual Audie Murphy Day veteran’s ceremony, a cornerstone event of Farmersville’s celebration honoring the nation’s most decorated combat soldier of World War II and the town he called home.

The ceremony followed a full morning of Audie Murphy Day activities, including a veteran’s breakfast, downtown parade and other commemorative events held throughout the city.

Mayor Craig Overstreet opened the program by reading a proclamation recognizing Audie Murphy Day and reaffirming the city’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the famed war hero, actor and advocate for veterans.
