Farmersville went 4-2 at the Godley Varsity Tournament and captured second place against a highly competitive field.
The only two losses for Farmersville came against a 22-4 Burleson squad that is ranked No. 20 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 5A state poll.
The Lady Farmers, who are ranked No. 24 in 4A, began the event with a two-set loss to eventual tournament champion Burleson, but they bounced back and proceeded to win each of their next four matches – two-set sweeps of Crowley, Blum, Godley and Sanger.
Farmersville rematched with Burleson in the first-place match, but the Lady Elks again came out on top in two sets.
Overall, it was a highly successful tournament season for the Lady Farmers.
The Lady Farmers (19-8) made the gold bracket in all three preseason tournaments, won the Central Heights Tournament and was the runner-up in the Godley Tournament. Farmersville notched its 19th win of the season in Godley and looked to earn its 20th victory Tuesday night against Leonard. Results of the match were unavailable at press time.
Earlier in the week, Farmersville played a five-set thriller against Whitehouse, but came up just short in a 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9 loss.
Senior outside hitter Peighton Purser, a Sam Houston State commit, finished with 32 kills, 11 digs and three service aces.
