It’s been a balancing act for Farmersville senior Breelynn Pollard.
With a busy schedule that includes volleyball and cross country, there have been times when she hasn’t been able to compete in a cross country meet because of obligations to the Lady Farmers’ volleyball team.
But when Pollard has run, she has run with the same determination that earned her a berth in the 2025 Class 4A state meet.
Last Friday’s Sulphur Springs Wildcat High School meet was another example. Pollard captured second place in the girls’ 2-mile race with a time of 12:14. Eustace junior Kezia Henderson, who placed 19th in last year’s Class 3A state meet, posted a winning time of 11:57.
“Breelynn is a minute faster than she was at this meet last year,” said Farmersville head girls coach Rebecca Christ. “What’s most impressive is that even with a busy schedule she puts in the work on her own. If she misses a practice, she will ask what we ran so she can do it on her own.”
Meanwhile, the Farmersville boys turned in an eighth-place finish at Sulphur Springs, finishing with 241 points.
Junior Landen Ware led the way individually for the Farmers, placing sixth with a time of 17:11. It was the fourth time this season that Ware has placed in the top 10. He’s finished in the top 11 in every race.
“Landen continues to do well,” said Farmersville head boys coach Jon Nordin. “He’s done the work and it shows. He didn’t feel like he was at his best Friday but was still very competitive.”
Jesse Hamm turned in the next fastest time for Farmersville, clocking an 18:31, good for 31st. Luke Lair took 40th in 18:46 in the boys’ 5-kilometer race. Andrew Plotts captured 88th place with a 19:47. Travis Chambers took 101st in 20:02.
Nordin likes the improvement that the Farmers have made and is confident the squad can qualify for the regional meet for the fourth consecutive season.
“All five of those guys are working hard and doing well,” he said. “Their goal is to qualify as a team again and they’re aware of how hard it’s going to be and how close its going to be. They’re doing all they can to put themselves in a position to do it.”
