Farmersville (20-9), ranked No. 24 in last week’s Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 4A state poll, rallied for a 3-2 victory over Leonard (18-25, 25-13, 18-25, 25-11, 15-8) on Tuesday, Sept. 1, as the Lady Farmers earned their 20th victory of the 2026 season.
“The match was a roller coaster,” head coach Arian May said. “We came out pretty slow on our feet. Defense struggled and so did serve-receive. But then we started clicking in the second set.”
Blocking was a big reason why Farmersville was able to persevere, led by a stellar effort by junior Lillian Couture. Couture had seven blocks for points but had almost 20 total blocks overall.
“Our block was incredible this game,” May said. “We went back and forth with them losing the first and third set, but played lights out in sets two, four and five. In those sets, we were on a roll offensively and with our blocking.”
Senior Peighton Purser carried the Lady Farmers’ offense, finishing with 30 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Freshman Emree Brazil also stepped up offensively, contributing 12 kills in the win. Sophomore Nidya Duran had nine kills.
Farmersville battled in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to 4A’s No. 10 Van Alstyne (23-4) at Farmersville Arena on Friday.
The Lady Farmers are hopeful that a challenging non-district schedule will help fuel another strong showing during the district portion of their schedule and a potential lengthy run in the postseason.
Farmersville is scheduled to play at Pleasant Grove on Friday before hosting 4A’s No. 7 North Lamar at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15.
“Each year I have tried to increase the strength of our schedule,” May said. “It is nice to have a really great record, but when it comes down to it, you need to be peaking against the good teams at the end of the season. That is hard if you don’t experience those failures along the way.
“I have really liked our schedule this year. We have played some great competition and have had the ability to adjust when needed. My hope is that this will pay off in the end. We want a district championship and a deep run in the playoffs. This team has the potential. It is about putting it all together at the right time.”
